Exeter Food Festival 2013
AS MUCH ABOUT demonstrating and making sales, for me food festivals are about new ideas and inspiration. In this respect this year’s Exeter Food Festival, from which we have just returned, did not disappoint. Tightly packed into the grounds of Exeter Castle, there is an intimate atmosphere to this festival, with visitors, stallholders and the local food theatre chef community clearly enjoying both the favourable weather, the social occasion, and of course the food.
This being our first year at the festival, we were thrilled to be exhibiting as a joint venture alongside the renowned and award winning Pipers Farm, providing us with the perfect opportunity to demonstrate some of our equipment in action. The Pipers Farm Team, led by Peter Greig, barbecued their fine quality produce on our fire pits, Kamado Joe ceramic barbecue grills and in the new Fornetto wood fired oven. Also on display was the ever popular Bradley Smoker resulting in sales to the celebrated Masterchef Professional 2012 winner Anton Piotrowski at the Treby Arms, Sparkwell.
On Sunday lunchtime we were joined by our good friend Masterchef Peter Gorton who provided a mouth watering display of barbecue skills on the Kamado Joe as a part of the Western Morning News win a Kamado Joe Competition. The winner of this competition will be announced on Wednesday 15th May.
Marcus Bawden from www.countrywoodsmoke.com, joined us in Friday, inspiring stand visitors with his intimate knowledge of traditional barbecue, and introducing us to local food manufacturer Rossini’s, whose perfectly blended barbecue rubs we will be stocking in the Outdoor Gourmet Shop.
Finally, away from the Outdoor Gourmet stand, I cannot resist a mention for the South American style barbecue catering operation that was selling out daily in the courtyard, by the name of El Gaucho. Whatever these guys are doing to their meat, they are doing it right! Must I wait until next year to taste some of this, I ask myself as I contemplate what a good time was had by all, at the Exeter Food Festival.
